Capt Frank Coen 

Capt Francis Coen
18th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force; 
son of Michael and Margaret Coen, Yass, and 
brother of Michael Joseph  (known as King) 
Coen was educated at St. Ignatius College and Sydney University, and was practising as a barrister at law before enlistment. He was killed at Pozieres, France, on 28th July, 1916, aged 33 years. 

Pte Walter Percy Garland 

Pte Walter Percy Garland
30th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force; 
son of Samuel & Alice Elizabeth Garland, North Yass. 
Walter was the only man to enlist from Yass during the famous Kangaroo March which passed through Yass in December, 1915. He was then 18 years old. He had been educated at the Yass District Public School and became a blacksmith. He was killed one year later in France.
