An Australian Light Horseman

A fully equipped Lighthorseman is not a light weight in the saddle. His gear is fantastic. And to move the model into the Yass Library it had to be dismantled. It then took one and a half hours to dress the model correctly.

The "Lighthorseman" is the property of Mr Stewart Thompson who has kindly lent it for the Yass Historical Society exhibition, "Yass Remembers 1918" which will open to the public from Saturday 7th to Wednesday 11th November, 1998.

Details of the gear carried by the horse and worn by the rider have been likewise supplied by Mr Thompson. The horses used by the AIF  were amazingly sturdy. They had to carry an approximate weight of 18.5 stone or 110 kgs into battle in a variety of conditions ranging from mud to sand.
