From north and south, from east and west
They came, these men all true-
True to the Empire, to themselves,
And Land of the Kangaroo.
No thought of self or home's best ties.
Taking life in hand
That no disgrace may soil the face
Of this, their native land
They fear not what may be before
Them in the coming fight;
Their only aim to keep in tact
Freedom's sacred right.
The right their forebears fought for-
Men all staunch and true.
(He will do his best, and chance the rest,
This fighting Kangaroo.)
Honor the men, with voice and pen,
Who've come at Empire's Call:
Who'll laugh and chaff and "war's wine" quaff,
While waiting deadly ball.
Lift your hats to the men, who never again
May see spot where they first breath drew.
Cheer loudly tonight with stentorian might:
THE MAN - AND THE KANGAROO.
