Society
The Yass Historical Society will be conducting a number of events in conjunction with this event. The exhibition, Yass Remembers 1918, will be on display at the Yass Library from Saturday 7th November till Wednesday 11th November 1998. On exhibit will be the Society's collection of World War One artifacts and memorabilia. You can't miss the Iron Horse and its rider, an Australian Lighthorseman already at the Library. It was kindly lent for the exhibition by Mr Stewart Thompson, a member of the Light Horse Association who led the Cooee March Re-Enactment in 1986. If anyone in the district has World War 1 memorability that could be lent to the exhibition it would be greatly appreciated. We have not forgotten, written by Cheryl Mongan and Richard Reid will be launched under the auspices of the Yass and District Historical Society on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening 7th November the Society will stage a presentation, Letters from the Front, in the Soldier's Memorial Hall at 8pm. Tickets: Individual - $10, Family - $25. The presentation features the writings of local soldiers from the battlefields of Gallipoli, the Middle East and the Western Front, describing their travels, battlefield conditions, their attitudes to the war and hopes and fears for the future. Musical items and verse of the period together with extensive visual material will add to the live readings of letters and diaries. Supper will be served. For further information contact:
