Knit a Sock!

Knitting socks for "our boys" was a major task for the mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, and friends left at home. This back line brigade organised their daily routines and social activities around the knitting, sewing, making, growing, cooking, giving collecting, sorting, wrapping and donating that would help "our boys" at the battle front.

To symbolise the community effort in providing comforts to those on active service during the war, a sock is being knitted by members of various organisations in the district.

For every local life lost during the Great War, a 30cm section of a sock will be knitted.  Affixed to the sock will be photographs, information and memorabilia relating to those who died, as well as information relating to various battles and local events.

This sock will be on display at Anthony Rose Gallery, Comur Street, Yass on the Saturday and the following few days.
